Exchange Programme - KoGuan Law School Shanghai Jiao Tong University


What does this Exchange Programme have to offer?

In the framework of this Exchange Programme, students of Vienna’s Law School have the opportunity to study at the KoGuan Law School of Shanghai Jiao Tong University for one term (spring semester: February 20, 2023 - June 25, 2023). The tuition fees are waived for exchange students. However, students have to bear all other costs themselves, such as residential fees, meals and accommodation, books, health insurance (Overseas Student Health Cover), travelling expenses, and the fees for obtaining a visa. They will be assisted by the International Programs Office of KoGuan Law School.

Who is eligible to apply?

Either students in law who have at least started the 2nd part of their study curriculum when applying, or PhD students in law.

Selection Criteria

  • A basic knowledge of Chinese is recommended.
  • Excellent knowledge of English (based on recent TOEFL or IELTS results)
  • Structured letter of motivation (including a description of nature and content of the intended study or research purpose)
  • Excellent study results (study process to date, duration and grades).
  • Personal interview with the coordinator of this exchange program, Prof. August Reinisch. This will be offered upon assessment of the application material and invitation only.

Application Material

All documents are to be submitted in English!

  • Filled-in application form which is obtainable as a word document here.
  • Copy of passport [expiry date: at least 1 month after end of exchange period]
  • Colored passport-sized photo (with white background), 28mm x 22mm, JPEG File (10kb)
  • CV
  • Structured letter of motivation (including a description of nature and content of the intended study or research purpose)
  • Recommendation Letter by a member of the University of Vienna’s Law School Faculty
  • Transcripts (academic report / course grades issued by the University of Vienna)
  • Proof of excellent knowledge of English (computer-based TOEFL, minimum: 92, IELTS: 6,5)

Student Allowance

As a matter of principle, you will be able to receive the allowance also while studying in China. Students already obtaining student allowances are also eligible to request a grant for studying abroad. Applications are to be made as soon as possible. Application Deadline and Modalities

Please submit your application material for the spring semester until October 20, 2022 to Mag. Claudia Luxon either via email (claudia.luxon@univie.ac.at ) or in envelopes to the Section for International Law and International Relations at the Juridicum (5th floor, Stiege 2). Decisions will be made by the selection committee immediately thereafter so that the best applicants receive their invitations to an interview before the end of March.
