Investment Protection and Domestic Courts

On 19 December 2025, Ursula Kriebaum and August Reinisch jointly hosted the conference “Investment Protection and Domestic Courts” at the Sky Lounge of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Statistics at Oskar Morgenstern Platz. Four panels examined how domestic courts and international investment tribunals interact across the entire life cycle of investment disputes.

  • Domestic Courts as a Substitute for Investor–State Dispute Settlement (Chair: Prof. Mavluda Sattorova, University of Liverpool)
  • Domestic Courts under the Scrutiny of Investment Tribunals (Chair: Prof. Tomoko Ishikawa, Nagoya University)
  • Intervention by Domestic Courts in Investment Arbitration (Chair: Dr. Johannes Tropper, University of Vienna)
  • Enforcement and Review of Investment Awards (Chair: Prof. Vid Prislan, University of Amsterdam)

We thank the panel chairs, all speakers, and the many participants for the lively discussions, and we look forward to continuing the exchange. Many thanks to Martina Mittermayer and Scarlett Ornter for making the conference possible, Ursula Kriwbaum & August Reinisch.
