On 29 May 2026, during its 77th session in Geneva the International Law Commission of the United Nations adopted the draft guidelines on “Settlement of disputes to which international organizations are parties” on first reading (http://legal.un.org/docs/?symbol=A/CN.4/L.1035). These guidelines were prepared (https://documents.un.org/doc/undoc/gen/g25/013/15/pdf/g2501315.pdf) by August Reinisch, the first Austrian Special Rapporteur of this expert body, a subsidiary organ of the UN General Assembly. August Reinisch is Professor of International and European Law at the Law School of the University of Vienna, and only the fourth Austrian who was elected member of the Commission following Alfred Verdross, Stephan Verosta and Gerhard Hafner. The output of the International Law Commission be forms the basis for central documents of international law, such as the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, the Articles on State Responsibility, or the UN Convention on State Immunity.
