On 25. and 26. November 2022, the conference International Human Rights and International Economic Law: Interfaces, Challenges, Visions took place at the University of Vienna. The conference was organized by Prof. Christina Binder (University of the Bundeswehr Munich) and Prof. Ursula Kriebaum (University of Vienna).

In four panels, numerous renowned speakers discussed current developments and challenges at the interface of international human rights law and international economic law. In the first panel, Katalin Sulyok, Andreas Müller and René Urueña addressed human rights and environmental issues in international economic law. In the second panel, Ursula Kriebaum, Michael Waibel and Irmgard Marboe analyzed competing jurisdiction and overlapping protection between human rights law and international investment law.

The first conference day ended with the book launch of the Elgar Encyclopedia of Human Rights, edited by Christina Binder, Jane Alice Hofbauer, Philipp Janig and Manfred Nowak

The second day of the conference was dedicated to current crises and challenges. In the third panel, Marlies Hesselman, Julian Scheu and Kilian Wagner discussed legal issues on the current energy crises and climate change. In the final panel, Veronika Bílková, Finnur Magnússon und Mateja Platise dealt with the legality of sanctions in international human rights law and international economic law.

The University of Vienna, the University of the Bundeswehr Munich, Edward Elgar Publishing and the Hermann and Marianne Straniak Foundation supported the conference.
