Examination Process

All candidates are invited at the examination date in units of a maximum of two hours. The specific time slots will be announced the day before the examination takes place. The exam lasts for about 20 minutes. Each candidate receives three independent questions, possibly supplemented by related additional questions. The questions will not be passed on. Please bring the second volume of the Austrian Public International Law Textbook (Materialienteil des Österreichischen Handbuchs des Völkerrechts) or the Codex of Public International Law with you to the exam - or for exams in English a similar collection e.g. Blackstone's International Law.

The Diploma Exam in Public International Law IREWI is taken in English according to the curriculum.

Assessment standards and criteria are, in particular, the knowledge and identification of the relevant legal foundations, the understanding of their practical interplay, the precision of the application of the legal methodology to concrete cases, the understanding and evaluation of the facts and the level of legal argumentation. Knowledge of all areas of international law indicated as the relevant examination subjects is an indispensable prerequisite for a positive result.
