Curriculum Vitae

Arjun Solanki is a university assistant (prae doc) in the team of Professor Michael Waibel at the Department of International Law at the University of Vienna. His doctoral research concerns the interaction between international investment law and the international climate change regime, and in particular how investor-State tribunals treat legitimate expectations and fossil fuel phase-out measures.

He studied law at the University School of Law and Legal Studies, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi and completed the Law Conversion Course (Master’s) at BPP University in London in 2025.

Arjun has assisted Sir Christopher Greenwood GBE CMG KC in five ICSID proceedings in which Sir Christopher sat as President of the Tribunal or as a member of an ad hoc Committee, and he continues to serve as arbitrator support assistant to Lara Hammoud in ICC, LCIA, DIAC, SIAC and ad hoc commercial arbitrations. He has worked in the international arbitration teams of Herbert Smith Freehills in Hong Kong and of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr in London, and has assisted Neil Kaplan CBE KC SBS and Chiann Bao. He has been a research assistant to Professor Waibel since February 2025, and previously to Professor Tomoko Ishikawa, Professor Mark Feldman, Dr Christoph Schreuer and Professor Julien Chaisse. He is a contributor to IAReporter.

His publications have appeared in the European Intellectual Property Review, the European Investment Law and Arbitration Review, the Contemporary Asia Arbitration Journal, Transnational Dispute Management and Columbia FDI Perspectives, and a book chapter on intellectual property and the freedom to conduct a business under the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights is forthcoming with Wolters Kluwer in 2026.

His interests include international investment law, international arbitration and dispute settlement, international economic law, international climate change law and the law of treaties.
